Fashion Photoshoot in the Las Vegas Desert
Metallic Bohemian Chic Photo Session
I’m very excited to publish the photos from the Metallic Shoot, a fantastic collaboration of a group of creative, talented and amazing ladies!
Veronica, originally from Argentina, long time resident of Las Vegas and owner of Nostalgia Resources, has a fantastic eye for style. After finding some disco balls in Downtown Las Vegas, she started working on the idea of a gold and silver photoshoot in the desert with contrasting shiny materials, grit, dirt and smoke in the dry lake bed. I felt very privileged to be invited to the shoot along with my fellow Las Vegas photographer friends Kristen Hansen and Mckenzi Taylor and the talented professional model Katrina. Most of my work features women from all walks of life and, as you know, I love posing my clients and giving directions. It was a pleasant change and surprise to work with Katrina, who really knows how to move and pose herself, seamlessly mixing strength, confidence, femininity and feistiness. Cora of Ruby Finch Salon provided the hair and make up for Katrina, giving her a natural, bohemian look. Veronica and her assistant wardrobe stylist, Rachel, selected dresses from Free People to complement the boho-metallic look.
For us photographers the shoot was a perfect opportunity to experiment with something different and unleash our creativity. I used my Impossible Project refurbished Polaroid, a lens baby composer and star filter on my old faithful Nikon D300 and my normal set up Nikon D810 with a Sigma 50 mm art. Even though at the beginning the wind picked up and seemed to be working against us, in the end it provided us with fantastic clouds and gave movement to the props, hair and dresses.
The post production is therefore mixed: for some images I wanted a bohemian, light look, similar to the old Kodak film. For other photos I wanted an extremely gritty and stormy look to emphasize the gold and silver materials and the strength and defiance of Katrina.
